High-sensitivity measurements of the Kerr constant in gases using a Fabry–Pérot-based ellipsometer

چکیده
The dc-Kerr constant was measured with high sensitivity in several gases, using a novel ellipsometer, which is based on a high-finesse Fabry–Pérot interferometer. An effective interaction length of 5.26 km was achieved by using a Fabry–Pérot interferometer with intracavity electrodes, yielding a single-pass sensitivity of ≈ 10 nanoradian. The dc-Kerr constants of CO2, N2, and O2 were determined with a high accuracy and with good agreement with previous measurements.

Design and Demonstration of a Bulk Micromachined Fabry–Pérot g-Resolution Accelerometer
A high resolution, passive, bulk-micromachined accelerometer based on the transmission-type intrinsic Fabry–Pérot interferometer has been designed, fabricated and, for the first time, experimentally evaluated via direct inertial characterization. The device characterization includes frequencyand time-domain evaluation. The sensor characteristics of bandwidth, range, sensitivity, and resolution ...

This work reports a novel structure for a Fabry–Pérot micro cavity that combines the highest reported quality factor for an on-chip Fabry–Pérot resonator that exceeds 9800, and a very high sensitivity for an on-chip volume refractometer based on a Fabry–Pérot cavity that is about 1000 nm/refractive index unit (RIU). The structure consists of two cylindrical Bragg micromirrors that achieve confi...
متن کاملDistributed optical fibre sensors based on spontaneous Brillouin scattering employing multimode Fabry-Pérot lasers
Proposed and characterised is the use of multi-longitudinal mode Fabry-Pérot laser sources, in distributed optical fibre sensors based on spontaneous Brillouin scattering, for simultaneous strain and temperature measurements. Experimental results show that, by using such multi-longitudinal mode lasers, it is possible to measure the Brillouin spectrum, even if the overall laser spectral linewidt...
متن کاملUse of Fabry-Pérot lasers for simultaneous distributed strain and temperature sensing based on hybrid Raman and Brillouin scattering
In this paper we propose the use of multi-longitudinal mode lasers, such as Fabry-Pérot (FP) lasers, for simultaneous distributed strain and temperature sensing based on hybrid Brillouin and Raman scattering. Fabry-Pérot lasers allow for high-power Raman intensity measurement and the simultaneous detection of the Brillouin frequency shift parameter for all FP longitudinal modes, by using a self...
